Flood Relief

Floods repeatedly displace families across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, destroying homes, crops and water supplies within hours. Helping Aid Foundation provides timely humanitarian assistance during floods, earthquakes, pandemics, conflicts, fires and other emergencies.

Our response runs in two phases: immediate relief (food, clean water, shelter and medical care in the first days) followed by recovery support that helps families rebuild and communities restore the infrastructure they lost.

The Foundation has run 60 disaster relief missions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The programme is not seasonal staffing that stands down between emergencies. It is activated as needed, which is what allows a response to begin in the first days rather than the first weeks.

Clean water is the first priority after floodwater, ahead of almost everything except rescue. Flooding contaminates wells and destroys supply lines, so the water still available to a village is often the water most likely to make people ill. Waterborne disease after a flood reaches more people than the flood itself, and it moves fastest through children who are already weakened.

Alongside water, the immediate phase covers emergency food, temporary shelter for households whose homes are gone, cash relief, and emergency medical care. Shelter is the need that lasts longest. A mud-brick home that has taken floodwater is frequently beyond repair rather than merely damaged.

The recovery phase begins once the immediate danger has passed. It supports families rebuilding their homes and communities restoring what they lost collectively: watercourses, access routes and the infrastructure a village depends on to function at all.

Relief costs are assessed per emergency rather than fixed in advance, because the scale of displacement is different every time. What a response requires is determined by our teams on the ground, from what they find there.
